Why does the Bible have to be inerrant, if you have a relationship with God/Jesus/Holy Spirit?

Because one of the functions of religion is to remove all doubt and uncertainty. Uncertainty is not comforting. So to abolish uncertainty, religions promise that their holy texts are "inerrant".
